The QAFL has a long and rich history dating back to 1904. It was previously known as the Queensland Football League (QFL), Queensland Australian National Football League (QANFL), Queensland Australian Football League (QAFL) and AFL Queensland State League (AFLQSL), to it's current name now as the Queensland Australian Football League (QAFL).
Since its inception, more than fifty teams have played in the premiership competition.
The J.A Grogan Medal is given to the best and fairest player in home and away rounds of the competition and was first awarded under the present name in 1946. It is the highest honour a player can achieve in the Queensland league.
The Joe Grant Medal is awarded to the Best on Ground player in the QAFL Grand Final.
The Ray Hughson Medal is awarded to the QAFL leading goal kicker at the end of a season.
